Villa Matilde is a Campania winery located in Cellole, in the province of Caserta. Its story begins in the 60s, when Francesco Paolo Avallone, a lawyer with a passion for wines, after being intrigued by the writings of Pliny, Virgil, Martial and Horace on the “Falernum”, decided to bring this legend back to the headlines wine now gone. Paolo thus began a journey with some professors of the Faculty of Agriculture of Naples, identifying after years of research a few strains that survived the phylloxera and replanting them in Massico, not far from where Villa Matilde is now based. It was the beginning of a splendid story, which continues today with Maria Ida and Salvatore, children of Paolo, architects of a new expansion of the winery in the Sannio Benevento area, where Tenuta Rocca dei Leoni was purchased, and in the DOCG circle of the Irpinia, where the Tenuta d’Altavilla was born. Villa Matilde is the bearer of territorial values in which history is of great importance, and is very careful to enhance the new strengths of the company’s work, namely respect for the environment and attention to new technologies.
