A baker met two young lovers who exchanged sweet kisses sitting on the rocks of Mergellina. They held tight while they watched the moon reflected in the gulf where the siren Partenope founded Naples. Inspired by this poetic image, the baker put his hands in the dough and with the typical ingredients of Campania cuisine he baked the first taralli with lard and pepper. He made very fragrant donuts thanks to the lard which gives a strong flavor; pepper that gives a spicy touch; almonds, an element very present in Campania cuisine as in the famous Caprese dessert. Satisfied, the baker handed the taralli still warm to the boys.
